Support queer writing!!

Start off the summer with some good queer karma!  One of my best friends was invited to attend the poetry session of the Lambda Literary Foundation’s Emerging LGBT voices retreat at UCLA. Like far too many fabulous queer opportunities, it’s prohibitively expensive— $1000, yikes.  Visit his donation page by clicking this post’s title to read his biography and learn more about the event.

There are so few spaces for queer writers to hone their talent and so few presses committed to publishes our words and stories.  Think how powerful it was for you to read of someone falling in love, growing up, feeling alone, or imagining the future and feeling like the story told was your own.  The summer after my first year of college I binged on lesbian fiction, reading everything Jeanette Winterson, Sarah Waters and Emma Donoghue had ever written.  I’d burst into dykedom at school and lonely without a queer community at home, I found connection and affirmation in their words.

Bottom line: it is SO important for us to nurture and support queer writers in their own right and because they do life-giving work for others.  Visit his page and support queer writing!
