Yeah I don’t get it either.
I can identify with that. I’ve never passed more as male than I did at a trans conference in March when all the older trans women thought I was a baby t-girl looking for the confidence to come out. Misunderstanding the question when an older woman asked me, “Are you one of us?” I said yes. Then she winked and whispered knowingly, “I saw the nail polish.” I then realized I’d inadvertently identified into the wrong category of trans person and that, in this setting, my tranny boy femmeitude was getting understood as the tentative blossoming of trans womanhood in my cis boy self.
They were quite supportive and encouragingly told me that I would be a beautiful girl. Though tempted, I didn’t tell them, “I already was.”
